On a crisp autumn evening on Thursday 26 September 2024, we hosted our highly anticipated Year 7 Open Evening, where prospective students and their families explored the vibrant atmosphere, diverse academic departments, and enriching extracurricular opportunities that define the school’s ethos of ambition, character, and civic virtue; it was an event brimming with excitement and discovery, offering a first-hand glimpse into the school’s dynamic learning environment and rich extracurricular culture. 

 

ENGLISH 

The English department was adorned with charming and comforting decor, creating an inviting space that sparked curiosity in every visitor. Books for each year group lined the shelves, promising an exhilarating journey through diverse narratives and literary worlds. The highlight was a captivating Three Witches theme from Macbeth, which enveloped Year 6 students in the dark enchantment of Shakespeare’s universe.

 

LANGUAGE

Venturing into the linguistic landscape, the language department showcased an array of languages, including French, Spanish, and German. Year 6 students eagerly undertook Latin tests, serving as a gateway to additional language studies. The department's dynamic activities, coupled with planned school language trips, painted a vivid picture of a globally connected future. 

 

DRAMA

The drama department transported visitors to the enchanting realm of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, where students explored the art of storytelling through innovative light, sound, and costume experimentation. Shakespearean extracts sprang to life, enveloping the room in a lively atmosphere that resonated with excitement and creativity.

 

ART

In the art department, a stunning array of creative interpretations and diverse styles showcased the students’ artistic prowess. Each piece served as a testament to their ingenuity, inviting children to immerse themselves in a world of colour and form. 

 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

The PE department thrived with competitive games. Team versus team matches not only cultivated camaraderie but also imparted essential skills, reinforcing the value of teamwork in a fun and engaging environment.

 

MUSIC

The music department resonated with harmonious melodies as students were educated about various song types. Experiments with ukuleles and keyboards transformed the hall into a vibrant musical playground, allowing children to develop their skills in an inviting atmosphere. 

 

FOOD TECHNOLOGY

The food tech department offered an enticing experience in bread-making. This hands-on learning encouraged a passion for culinary arts among the young chefs. 

 

LIBRARY 

Within the library, students delved into the house system, exploring a treasure trove of fiction and nonfiction books. 

 

HISTORY

The history department captivated students with engaging activities. Students left the department with a richer understanding of their place in history and the lessons that can be drawn from it.

 

GEOGRAPHY 

In the geography department, students embarked on an exhilarating journey of global exploration, engaging in activities that illuminated fascinating facts about our world. The department fostered a sense of wonder and curiosity, inspiring future explorers and environmental stewards.

 

MATHEMATICS 

The Maths department offered a stimulating environment brimming with activities designed to challenge young minds. Students eagerly engage with Sparx Maths questions, sampling the rich knowledge that awaits them in their secondary education. Each problem became a puzzle to solve, fostering critical thinking and a passion for mathematical exploration, laying the foundation for their future academic pursuits.

In the science department, students conducted thrilling experiments with an array of equipment, including exhilarating flying objects powered by CO2 and flame tests using Bunsen burners. This hands-on approach allowed students to witness the magic of science firsthand. With each experiment, they uncovered the principles that govern our universe, igniting a passion for discovery that would accompany them throughout their academic journeys.
