DRAYTON MANOR HIGH SCHOOL

OUR GOVERNORS

CHAIR OF GOVERNORS

Mr J Eva

Drayton Manor High School, Drayton Bridge Road, London W7 1EU

The Governing Board takes a full and active role in the school. It works very closely with the Head in a positive and highly effective partnership. The Head is the professional leader and chief executive of the school. She is responsible for the organisation, direction and management of the school, the leadership of staff and for all the activities, academic or otherwise, of the school.

The Governing Board has a number of specific statutory responsibilities that include:

  • planning strategically
  • the quality of education provided by the school
  • employing staff
  • admissions
  • owning the land and buildings

The Governing Board meets at least once a term. In order to function effectively and efficiently a substantial part of its work is delegated to two committees. These are:

  • Curriculum and Student Welfare and Premises and Health and Safety
       (Committee Chair, Ms T Henriot)
  • Business, Finance, Audit and Personnel
       (Committee Chair, Mr P Carpentier)

Each committee meets at least once a term and governors are required to work as members of one of the committees. In addition there are a number of committees that only meet when the need arises. The term of office for governors of all categories is four years. The Governing Board is composed of fifteen governors as listed below:

  • 8 General Governors
  • 1 Local Authority Governor
  • 2 Parent Governors
  • 4 Staff Governors (including the Head)

Being a governor means giving time, energy and commitment. The role of a school governor is a voluntary position that is much valued within the education system. It is a position of importance and trust.

In addition to categories of elected Governors from staff and parents, the Governors may need in future to appoint new Governors, and they believe it would be helpful to keep a list of those who might be able to serve in this way. Therefore, if you think that at some point you or someone you know (who does not have to be a parent) might be available and have relevant skills, experience or potential, please contact the Clerk to the Governors at the school, who will make arrangements to obtain relevant information the Governors require.

In making appointments, the Governors will have particular regard to the balance of skills and experience on the Governing Board at the time and their forthcoming activities. Therefore, those who might prove good governors might not necessarily be appointed at a particular time, but their details will be kept on file.
