Lucky Seven for Drayton Manor!
Drayton Manor High School erupted in celebration this week after its football team clinched a thrilling victory, scoring seven goals to secure the trophy. The fast-paced showdown against St Benedict’s Independent School on Wednesday, 9 October, saw the home side rise to the occasion, overcoming a challenging start and a waterlogged pitch to emerge triumphant.
How Did the Scores Work?
Both schools fielded three teams of 16 players, each led by a captain. The first group played the entire match, while the waterlogged pitch forced the second and third groups to swap at halftime, though this adjustment posed little issue. At halftime, we spoke with 2nd XI captain Karim, who candidly assessed their performance, "Overall, I’m happy with how we’re playing, and I think we’ll make a comeback and win!"
His prediction proved accurate, as Drayton secured a 1-0 victory in the second half, thanks to a decisive goal by Zakaria. Reflecting on the win, Zakaria praised the team’s effort, calling it "an outstanding performance from all of the players."
The friendly competition provided an excellent opportunity for Year 11-13 students to connect with their peers in an atmosphere of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
With this remarkable victory, Drayton Manor’s football team has set the tone for a promising season ahead. After the game, both teams attended a celebratory dinner in the Drayton Manor dining hall. The evening was filled with cheers and congratulations as coaches and captains delivered heartfelt speeches, commending the players' efforts and teamwork. Here's to more wins and an unbeaten streak!
