Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)


The Extended Project Qualification is an optional qualification that is worth half an A2 Level and up to 70 UCAS points. It enables students to explore and area of personal interest or extend a particular aspect of a subject specification in greater depth. It also develops independent learning and research skills that are valued by universities and employers.


Below are some examples of titles that previous students have complete:


  • To what extent does American literature of the 1920s suggest a spiritual and moral emptiness?
  • Is the world really shrinking?
  • Analyse the extent to which the horror genre and its conventions in American cinema have developed in correlation with the real life fears of a changing society.
  • To what extent are traditional values challenged in Jack Kerouac’s On the Road?
  • Why have the lyrics of the Velvet Underground been considered ground breaking?
  • “Sylvia Plath’s work is narcissistic, pessimistic and self-absorbed”. With reference to some of her poetry and her only novel The Bell Jar assess the validity of these claims.
  • “The prevention of communism, which was the key reason for US intervention in Latin America during the Cold War, was intended to preserve the freedoms of Latin Americans” Discuss.
  • What were the military, political and religious consequences of the Battle of Breitenfield, 1631?
  • Bovine Tuberculosis – symptoms, solutions and global presence.
  • How far was the artwork of Francisco de Goya inspired by his perception of politics, society and important events in the late 18th and early 19th century Spain?
  • To what extent is it possible to convey Jane Austen’s literature in film adaptations?
  • How viable are CCR5 Receptor Antagonists for the treatment of HIV?
  • How close are we to a single unified theory of the universe?
  • How far did the Nazis abuse and manipulate history and archaeology for their own aims?
  • Assess how successful multiculturalism has been as a race-relations policy in the UK between 1948 and 2011.
  • Meningococcal Meningitis: Will it ever be eradicated?
